Checking the goods doesn’t resolve the issue of pallets
An export batch may be prepared, and wooden packaging may be purchased separately at the last moment.
For the company, this is an independent object of verification: the material of pallets, crates, and fastening wood is not always the same.
ISPM 15 concerns phytosanitary measures for wooden packaging made from raw wood in international trade.
The IPPC also sets a boundary: packaging made of wood processed in a way that eliminates pests—for example, plywood—does not fall into the same category.
This is not a reason to consider any combined crate an exception.
Let’s discuss packaging preparation and review in your company
I can help you review packaging preparation and review, connect documents and confirmations, and identify the participants and next steps.
We can also discuss similar difficulties and related foreign trade tasks in your company.
We will agree on the scope before work begins.
Describe all wooden components
Request from the supplier the composition of the packaging, including supports, slats, and fasteners.
Plywood walls do not explain the material of the base blocks.
Match the description with the actual delivery, photographs, and manufacturer identification.
The applicability of the standard and the requirements of the destination country is verified by a specialized participant.
Authorized organizations carry out the necessary procedures and use labeling according to the established procedure.
The coordinator must not apply the mark themselves or reproduce it from a picture.
Separately, clarify the status of used or repaired packaging.
An old confirmation does not explain the origin of the added parts.
What to check before transferring packaging to the warehouse
The form below is the company’s procurement control; it does not replace the standard or official verification.
| Question | Confirmation | Who handles it |
|---|---|---|
| What is the packaging made of? | Composition of all components | Supplier |
| What was actually delivered? | Photos and acceptance | Warehouse |
| What requirements apply? | Source for the destination | Relevant specialist |
| Is there any repair or replacement of parts? | History of changes | Supplier and warehouse |
| How is the packaging related to the shipment? | Packing record | Coordinator |
If the base material is unknown, do not close the issue based on the word ‘plywood’ in the product name.
Do not mix phytosanitary and cargo suitability
Compliance with phytosanitary measures does not confirm the permissible load, stack stability, or suitability for contact with food.
These properties are verified separately based on the product and transportation scheme.
The IPPC also clarifies that the measures provided by the standard do not provide permanent protection against subsequent pest contamination.
Therefore, after receiving the packaging, storage conditions and re-inspection are important.
If there is damage or doubt, pass the issue to a competent participant before use.
Include packaging in shipment preparation
Set a procurement deadline to allow time for verification and replacement.
Record which packaging was used in a specific batch and keep supplier confirmations.
Do not transfer the ‘verified’ mark to their entire range.
Combine this card with the internal shipment release permit.
The manager must see separately the readiness of the products, documents, and packaging.
An open issue with one of the parts cannot be hidden by the overall deal status.
